Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving clarified Monday that his position on the Covid vaccine won’t change after Kevin Durant’s knee injury, which is expected to keep Durant out of action for four to six weeks.

The 29-year-old Irving has never been shy about speaking out on anything, and his candor has often resulted in criticism and, more commonly, misunderstanding.

Irving scored 27 points, and had seven rebounds and nine assists in his team’s recent 114-107 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It was only his fourth game this season for the Nets, who have struggled dealing with injuries and other distractions after signing James Harden, Irving and Durant.

As part of New York City health and safety protocols, players must be vaccinated to perform in indoor sports venues.

“That’s what I think comes into a lot of this culture and basketball and sport and entertainment,” Irving said in his strongest comments on the touchy-feely issue.

During his post game interview, Irving said that he was upset that his decision was being challenged and that it was almost always related to his job and not personal life.
