Both the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves have been forced to be more creative with their pitching selections.
Houston’s Ryne Stanek and Phil Maton each have stepped to the mound four times, while Yimi Garcia, Kendall Graveman, and Brooks Raley have filled in three times each.
On the other hand, Braves relievers Will Smith, A.J. Minter, Tyler Matzek, and Luke Jackson all recorded three appearances already.
Game 6 will be an all-out pitching dual for both Luis Garcia and Max Fried.
“Everybody that’s in the World Series right now is gassed, everybody,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said on Monday. “Both teams, all the players. It’s been a long year.”
Fried has an impressive 14-7 record with a 3.04 ERA during the regular season and was exceptionally brilliant versus the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Division Series and the opener of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“I expect to see Max on top of his game (Tuesday),” said Snitker. “I expect that every time he goes out. I mean, this guy probably, since the All-Star break, is one of the best pitchers in the game. So that’s kind of the version of Max that I expect to see tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Astros manager Dusty Baker is sure that Garcia would be his first choice for Game 6.
“We think that he’s the best for the job,” said Baker. “We realize that he has a short leash, but then everybody out there has a short leash and operating on low rest or not full rest.”
Baker also acknowledged the depth of his team had brought him to where they are now this season.
“In every sport, these guys make the difference because you wear your stars out and they can’t do it all the time,” Baker said. “You have to have other guys on your team that you call upon, especially in a specialt situation.”
The Astros must win and force a Game 7 to stay in the series, while the Braves could clinch their World Series title after 1995 at Minute Maid Park.

https://nypost.com/2021/11/01/braves-using-starting-pitcher-to-clinch-world-series-feels-nostalgic/… After all the bullpen innings, the #Braves have their last two legit SPs on full rest in attempts to win their first title since Glavine/Maddux/Smoltz helped pitch them to their last one.

Good morning from Atlanta. Here's my column on #WorldSeries Game 5: The #Braves' bullpenning didn't work out last night, but I'm pro-bullpenning (sort of): https://bit.ly/2Y7AmBC #Astros
