Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady escaped a serious injury to his right thumb during the team’s 45-17 win over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday.

The veteran quarterback hit his thumb on a Dolphins defender’s helmet during the first half. Nobody on the Buccaneers’ team knew of the incident, and Brady kept playing. He even threw five touchdown passes.

“I didn’t [know],” wide receiver Mike Evans said. “But he’s a tough guy obviously, one of the most durable players we’ve seen. He looked normal to me, so I didn’t know he was injured.”

Brady talked to reporters with his hand wrapped on Tuesday and shared how his right hand felt.

“I think it’s just a little bit sore, but I expected it to be,” Brady said. “But I think I should be fine for Thursday. There’s no serious injury at all. It’s more just discomfort, but I think that should be gone here in the next day or two.”

Head coach Bruce Arians’ team is 4-1, and Brady has thrown for 1,767 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just two interceptions through five games.

Tampa Bay will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.
