Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a lot of respect for his AFC North opponent Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns.
During an appearance on the “Full Send” podcast, Burrow was asked what he thinks of the situation with the Browns’ Mayfield and Deshaun Watson.
While he has nothing but respect for the Oklahoma University alumni and once-Heisman Trophy winner, Burrow admits it was a move (trading for Watson) Cleveland had to make because of the former Houston Texans quarterback’s talent.
"I think when you have a guy like Deshaun, you have to take a chance at that because he is such a great player but Baker is a really good player, he will land on his feet."

Baker in Limbo
Baker Mayfield remains on the Browns’ roster for now. His trade market has seemingly dried up, if there ever was one at all. The Browns and Mayfield never reached the Bengals and Joe Burrow’s level. Depending on if there’s a suspension for Watson or not, Burrow and Watson will battle it out twice this year and for the foreseeable future.

Burrow has problems with the Browns
Joe Burrow made it to the Super Bowl in just his second season in the NFL, but he has yet to defeat the Cleveland Browns. One reason for that being, and he will tell you himself, is the play of Baker Mayfield.
During his four years in the NFL, Mayfield has excelled against the Bengals, finishing 6-1 against them – his best record against any team. He went 3-0 against Burrow as a No. 1 pick, which included a 41-16 victory in Cincinnati just days after Odell Beckham Jr. left the team.

Mutual respect exists between the quarterbacks.
After watching from the bench as Ohio State beat Oklahoma 31-16 in their 2017 showdown of top-five teams, Burrow got a first-hand look at Mayfield’s skills. As Burrow sat in the locker room with the rest of his teammates, Mayfield planted a crimson Sooners flag at midfield.
“He’s not gonna plant it at midfield? He is. Wow”

I mean, if I were Burrow, I'd be trying to get Baker out of the AFCN too. Dude had his best 2 games of the season every year against the Bengals.
If the trade deadline is between weeks 8 and 9, keeping Mayfield on the roster and just having him play week 8 against the Bengals is kind of like paying $9,000,000 to guarantee one win.
I can’t help but love burrow.
Just thinking aloud, but if I had to guess I would say that probably 95% of NFL Players are cool with Watson and fine with him playing.
In terms of PR, his comments/responses may be the most perfect I've seen recently My only hope is that due to the Watson contract structure, this dude ends up in the NFC in a couple years... don't really want to see him in the division for the next 2 decades
Got to respect Burrow. Would have made a great Brown.
