The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine is less than a week away in Indianapolis and more than 150 draft prospects are planning to boycott the week-long event if heavy COVID-19 restrictions continue.
The NFL issued a statement through email on Saturday stating that players must adhere to the COVID-19 regulations in Indianapolis where the League appears to be establishing a bubble-type environment where everyone having access to each player is required to be fully vaccinated and boosted. In addition, each player can bring one medical person with them.
The NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero tweeted about the regulation adding that players who violate will be sent home and disqualified from further participation.
“The NFL scouting combine just informed draft prospects they’ll be in a “bubble” in secure locations next month in Indianapolis, with limited exceptions: “Players who violate this policy at any time will be disqualified from further participation and sent home,” Pelissero tweeted.
The national insider for NFL Network Ian Rapoport tweeted that more than 150 prospects are organizing a boycott on all of the combined events.
“Agents representing more than 150 draft prospects are organizing a boycott of all testing, on-field workouts and interviews at next month’s NFL scouting combine if heavy “bubble” restrictions aren’t changed, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.” The 42-year-old sportswriter tweeted.
Furthermore, should the League fail to comply, players holdouts are going to happen this year.
“Unless the NFL and the combine agree to ease those restrictions — allowing players access to their full team of coaches, trainers, ATCs et al. as in past years — many top prospects will only do medical evaluations next month in Indianapolis,” Rapoport added.
There are 324 draft prospects in total for the event scheduled March 1-7 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
