Andrew Wiggins’ Dunk on Luka Doncic stuns Hoop World
Game 3 of the Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks was earth shattering.
While the Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the series with a 109-100 victory at American Airlines Center in Dallas, it was the fireworks that took place late in the game that made the headlines.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins slammed down a nasty dunk over Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic, sending the 23-year-old to the floor.
Wiggins was initially whistled for an offensive foul, a decision he strongly disagreed with.
Golden State head coach Steve Kerr challenged the call, and while it was being considered, the dunk was played on a loop on the Jumbotron in the arena.
Kerr won the challenge, and the game returned to action.
It may well be the greatest dunk in Canadian basketball history
The 26-year-old Wiggins, who is from Thornhill, Ont., put an exclamation point on a 27-point, 11-rebound, and a game-high plus-22 outing when he drove left and attacked the lane with maximum velocity before rising up for a dunk that was so ferocious officials initially called an offensive foul.
“I mean, I was hit a little bit, but it was impressive, I’m not going to lie, I watched the video again, I was like, Oh. It was quite unbelievable. I wish I had those rabbits.”
- Luka Doncic
Wiggins is the Warriors’ top three-point shooter in the playoffs, shooting 40 percent.
"That's always been our battle cry to him. "Forget going to lay the ball up. Go dunk."
- Klay Thompson
Wiggins Looks Like a Different Player
Whatever path he had to take, Wiggins has arrived at a very good place at the perfect time, as he has become a critical part of a juggernaut team on the cusp of becoming an NBA champion.
