Aaron Rodgers’ performance in the Green Bay Packers’ 30-28 win over the San Francisco 49ers was nothing short of stunning.
Levi’s Stadium was already celebrating after the 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo completed a touchdown pass to fullback Kyle Juszczyk, and for a moment, it appeared to be the game-winning score.
Celebrations took place on the field and in the stands. However, there were still 37 seconds left on the clock, and for Rodgers, that was more than enough time.
The reigning NFL MVP hit Davante Adams for 25 yards, then spiked the ball to stop the clock near midfield. An incomplete pass followed, and left the Packers with 16 seconds left on the clock.
Time was running out, so Rodgers threw one more pass to Adams for 17 yards, then raced to the 33-yard line to spike it again.
“I don’t know [if that] sealed it,” Rodgers said. “We still had a field goal, but my old partner Mace, I felt good about him nailing that. He’s made some big kicks over the years.”
Packers kicker Mason Crosby then stepped up and kicked the winning 51-yard field goal to give Green Bay the win.
“Well, you’re always conscious of [the clock],” Garoppolo told reporters after the game. “In that situation, there’s a lot of different things going on. But yeah, game clock, you’re always trying to get it as low as you can.
It’s just tough when you’ve got a guy like Aaron on the other side,” Garoppolo continued. “You leave him any amount of time, you never know what can happen. I mean, the dude did it in 36, 37 seconds. You’ve got to tip your hat to him sometimes.”
Next Sunday, the Packers host the the Pittsburgh Steelers, while San Francisco face the Seattle Seahawks.
