In an interview with Aubrey Marcus on the “Aubrey Marcus Podcast,” Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers admitted to taking ayahuasca before winning consecutive MVP awards in 2020 and 2021.

The 38-year-old quarterback attributes his career-best seasons to the psychedelic, which changed his mindset and led to mental health improvement.

During the live podcast broadcast on YouTube Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Rodgers spoke about consuming ayahuasca, a plant-based psychedelic when he was in Peru prior to the 2020 season.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” Rodgers said. “I really don’t. I don’t really believe in coincidences at this point. It’s the universe bringing things to happen when they’re supposed to happen.”

According to Marcus, the fact that Rodgers was awarded the MVP award after his first experience with psychedelic attested to this, something Rodgers also agreed with.

“I heard about Ayahuasca and I think there’s so many myths and rumors about it. The fear around it is you’re gonna sh*t yourself, it’s just a big throwup fest. … A dear friend of mine, in 2019 went down to Peru and did an experience. And we were playing golf one day, right after he got back and he told me the whole story. I was deeply moved and I felt like now it’s time. Now it’s time for me to do it.”

It's Time For Tea

Ayahuasca has a brown-reddish color with a strong smell and taste. Among its active ingredients is dimethyltryptamine (DMT). DMT is classified as a hallucinogen by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The NFL also lists DMT as a banned substance. NFL players are usually subjected to random blood tests during training camp and during the season and playoffs to ensure they are not in violation of the NFL drug regulations.
