Electronic Arts has signaled a welcome return to the PGA Tour, one of the sports franchises that helped the company make a name for itself.
“EA Sports and the PGA Tour have created some of the most memorable golf video game experiences together, and we couldn’t be more excited to expand our sports portfolio with a new golf title on next-gen hardware,” EA Sports GM Cam Weber said.
The new PGA Tour, EA said, will allow players to build their virtual careers by playing against some of the biggest names in professional golf, while competing on some of the world’s best-known golf courses.
The game will be played under a “new, long-term deal” due to be signed between EA Sports and the PGA Tour in 2021.
The long-term contract with the PGA Tour comes as EA is embarking on a restart of golfing at a time when rival publisher 2K is entering its own long-term agreement with Tiger Woods for the PGA Tour.
A decade ago Tiger Woods was the face of the PGA Tour’s successful series when it was designed and released by EA.
