Week 12 Thursday Injury Report: Russell Okung working his way back

CHARLOTTE –  Russell Okung on Thursday was limited for a second straight day of practice, but the left tackle is inching closer to a return.

Okung, who’s missed the past four games with a calf injury, could return this weekend against the Vikings. Or he may have to wait out the Week 13 bye. 

“Whether it’s this week or the Denver game, we’ll see. We’ll see if he’s ready,” head coach Matt Rhule said. “We’re monitoring him throughout the week, seeing how he responds to reps. We’re hopeful he can play, but if he’s not, we’re also repping Trenton (Scott) to make sure that he’s ready to go.” 

The Panthers are also hoping right guard John Miller can face the Vikings. Miller, who sat out last week’s win over the Lions with knee and ankle injuries, was limited for a second straight day. 

Running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder) was also limited again. 

“Nothing new on Christian,” said Rhule, who on Wednesday said McCaffrey is not expected to play in Minnesota.  

“(He) got out there, got some reps today, moving around. Good to see him kind of working himself back in.”

There are fewer concerns about quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (knee). He was a full participant again, and according to Rhule, is “ready to roll.” 

Defensively, cornerback Donte Jackson was again held out with a lingering toe injury, which will likely force him out of a second straight game.
