Vikings interview Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles for head coaching job

The Vikings interviewed Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles on Friday for their head coach opening.

Bowles is the fifth candidate to interview for the job since Mike Zimmer was fired Jan. 10. The Vikings also fired general manager Rick Spielman that day.

Bowles, 58, is his third season as Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator. The Buccaneers, last season’s Super Bowl champions, play host on Sunday to the Los Angeles Rams in an NFC divisional playoff game.

Bowles has had two stints as a head coach. He was Miami’s interim coach in 2011, going 2-1, and was New York Jets coach from 2015-18, going 24-40.

He is the fifth candidate to interview for Minnesota’s opening, and the second who has been an NFL head coach. The Vikings also have interviewed Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, a former Atlanta Falcons coach.
