The Rockets gave water to more than 3,000 families outside Toyota Center on Wednesday.

Mayor Sylvester Turner, Rockets coach Stephen Silas and members of the Rockets front office, including Tilman Fertitta’s wife Paige and son Patrick, all were helping get water bottles into the trunks of people’s vehicles.

Silas, who was hired by the Rockets in October, said his family lost water and power just like most of the rest of Houston during last week’s Arctic blast. He also had three pipes at his home burst from the freezing conditions.

“I’ve only been here for a few months, and Houston really is a special place,” Silas said. “When stuff happens, people come together, whether it is this, social injustice, whatever. Houstonians are like, ‘Hey, let’s buckle down and come together and deal with this adversity in the way that we do in Houston.’ It’s awesome.”
