Panthers 2021 season opener countdown: 56 days to go

There are only 56 days until the Panthers kick off the 2021 season, so that means today’s roster countdown piece is dedicated to the player currently wearing No. 56 for the Panthers — linebacker Jermaine Carter.

The Panthers selected Carter in the fifth round (No. 161 overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Carter (6-1, 225) has appeared in all 48 games (and started 13) for the Panthers since being drafted. He finished 2020 with a career-high number of starts when he started in seven of the team’s 16 games last season. Carter has logged 87 tackles (47 solo), 0.5 sacks and 1 pass defended in his three-year stint with the Panthers and had a career high in tackles in 2020 with 45 (20 solo).

Carter will see plenty of playing time in 2021 now that Jeremy Chinn will play more snaps at safety, and Carter will be one of the three linebackers — along with Denzel Perryman and Shaq Thompson — to the most action at the position for Carolina’s defense this year.

What do you expect from Carter this season, Panthers fans? Share your thoughts with us!

I write stories about football for Cat Scratch Reader. I’m also the Managing Editor so I get to tell people what to do. It’s pretty neat. Also, go Gamecocks!
