No Rafflin’ around: Stars newcomer Michael Raffl scores again, leads Dallas in goals

PITTSBURGH — For the second straight game, newcomer Michael Raffl scored a goal. On Tuesday night, he crushed a one-timer off a feed from Radek Faksa during the final 10 seconds of the first period.

“I just opened up hoping he would find a lane there, and he put a perfect pass right in the wheelhouse,” Raffl said. “I was able to get it off quick. That’s all I wanted and fortunately enough, it went in.”

Faksa now leads the Stars with three assists and four points, while Raffl is the team’s leading goal-scorer.

The pair has played almost exclusively together at 5 on 5 so far this season, with a rotating right winger. It started as Denis Gurianov, but Joe Pavelski has occupied that spot the last two games.

“We like that duo of Faksy and Raffl,” Stars coach Rick Bowness said. “They’ve worked well together. They’re starting to feed off each other. They’re big guys that can skate and they’re physical. They can hang on to pucks and Pav’s been a big help to them as well. That line’s been very good since we put it together.”

Raffl: “He’s so steady, it’s easy to play with a reliable center out there. He’s good in all three zones. He’s good on faceoffs and makes it easy to play with, for sure.”
