A dozen games in, and it’s hard to recognize this edition of the Winnipeg Jets.

Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, the two players most synonymous with offensive production over the years, with doughnuts in the goal column?

The list of teammates who’ve scored more goals than Scheifele and Wheeler, combined, include Jansen Harkins, Evgengy Svechnikov, Dominic Toninato and Kristian Vesalainen.

If your neighbourhood fortune teller had made that prediction going into the season, you’d have tossed the tarot cards in her face and demanded a full refund. But there it is, in black and white.

Yet, the Jets are a respectable 6-3-3 going into a home-ice tilt against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. And feeling relatively good about themselves.

“Of course we’re not happy we haven’t won the last two against the Islanders and St. Louis,” defenceman Brenden Dillon was saying on Wednesday. “But compared to some of them … maybe we were winning those games but we weren’t playing the way that we wanted to, the way we should.
