NBA Mock Draft 2.0

The offices at 1 Spurs Lane were a bit of a ghost town last week. From Wednesday through Sunday, much of the Spurs’ front office staff converged on Chicago for the 2022 NBA draft combine.

By some unofficial counts, no team sent more observers to the league’s annual prospect tire-kicking than the contingent from San Antonio.

And for good reason.

For the first time in club history, the Spurs will have three first-round picks in the June 23 draft. It marks only the third time in team annals the Spurs will have more than one first-round draft slot.

Barring a trade — which is not unforeseen — general manager Brian Wright and crew will select ninth, 20th and 25th this year.

There is much work to be done to get to that point, hence the battalion of observers in silver and black at last week’s combine.

The team has a little less than a month to decide on their targets to be the next pieces in an ongoing rebuilding project. For now, and for entertainment purposes only, here is our second crack at guessing the Spurs’ picks, as well 27 other potential first-round selections:

1. Orlando

Jabari Smith, Auburn, 6-10, PF/SF

Smith was not the consensus top pick through much of the season, but the more scouts saw, the more they liked, from his great positional size and elite range shooting to the ability to be an impact defensive player…
