Mancini on new contract (plus today’s lineups) – School of Roch

SARASOTA, Fla. – DJ Stewart is back in the Orioles lineup today for the first time since March 23, when he took a fastball off his left hand in Tampa.

Stewart is playing right field against the Pirates in Sarasota. The Orioles are trying to get him a sufficient number of at-bats before breaking camp.

Ramón Urías is playing third base, Chris Owings is the shortstop and Anthony Bemboom is the designated hitter.

Robinson Chirinos is catching left-hander Bruce Zimmermann. Lefty Zac Lowther also will pitch today.

Trey Mancini is in left field, his first game since the Orioles avoiding an arbitration hearing by signing him to a $7.5 million deal that includes a $10 million mutual option in 2023 with a $250,000 buyout.

Mancini sought $8 million and the Orioles narrowed the gap with the buyout – doing so after vowing to be file-and-trial, with no more negotiations.

“I think we got there in a bit of a roundabout way, but at the same time, with the hearings being TBD this year, I don’t think that necessarily influenced my decision to take it or not, but we thought that it was a good number and preferrable to not dragging it into the season,” Mancini said this morning.
