The Winnipeg Jets will open the 2021-22 NHL season on the road against Anaheim on Oct. 14 and will play the Ducks three times in the first two weeks of the season.

That’s just one of the quirks in a schedule for what promises to be the first 82-game season in the NHL since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The schedule currently contains a three-week break for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in China, although the NHL has not yet confirmed its participation in those Games. A revised schedule will be released should the NHL choose to not send its players to Beijing for any reason, including outbreaks of coronavirus.

The Jets will play their home opener at newly-named Canada Life Centre against the Ducks on Oct. 21.

The Jets will play their first game against former top draft pick Patrik Laine on Wednesday, Nov. 24 in Columbus. Laine was traded to the Blue Jackets, along with forward Jack Roslovic, for centre Pierre-Luc Dubois last January.
