Jets go for talented centre Chaz Lucius with 18th overall pick in NHL draft

Moments after the Winnipeg Jets selected centre Chaz Lucius in the first round of the NHL Draft Friday night, analysts started comparing him to winger Kyle Connor.

Asked about that a few minutes later, the 18-year-old didn’t disagree.

“Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor are two guys I really look up to and try to model my game after for sure,” said Lucius, who has looked like a pure goal-scorer in his minor hockey career.

If he turns out anything like Connor, who has 131 goals in 305 career games with the Jets, or Scheifele, who has 201 goals in 575 games, he could turn out to be a real steal.

“I really look up to Mark Scheifele,” Lucius said. “It’s pretty cool now that I’ve been drafted by the Jets and having him as an idol of mine. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity there and I’ll keep watching his game.”
