Since they’re headquartered in Calgary this season, the Stockton Heat won’t need to order any specialty channels to watch wall-to-wall coverage of Monday’s NHL trade deadline.

And if there’s an incoming call from the Saddledome offices, it might not be bad news.

With the Flames expected to be sellers, there could be reinforcements needed on either the active roster or taxi squad.

Unless they can suddenly string together an epic winning streak, it’s about time they turned their focus to the future.

With that in mind, here are six call-up candidates — three forwards, two defencemen and a goalie — who could be summoned for a late-season audition with the Flames …


Phillips should be perched atop the list of potential forward call-ups, although many have wondered if the 5-foot-7, 155 lb. right-winger would be overlooked since he doesn’t exactly fit the mould of a Darryl Sutter-type player. Or is it that simple? Phillips is clever, plays with impressive pace and is tenacious on the puck, even if he’s not going to run anybody through the boards. You have to like his mindset, too.
