Max Stassi hit two home runs, and Patrick Sandoval had a strong outing on the mound to lead the California Angels to a 10-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The win moved the Angels (33-22) to above .500 for the first time since May 1, while extending the Diamondbacks (33-38) losing streak to 10 games.
According to Maddon, Sandoval is getting more comfortable playing in the big leagues.
“It really comes down to the starting pitching. Sandy was really good,” said Angels manager Joe Maddon.
Arizona is currently experiencing its second two-digit loss.
“It’s the hardest thing I’ve had to walk through in my managerial career,” said Arizona manager Torey Lovullo about his team’s second two-digit losing streak of the season. Their previous losing streak was 13 games.
The Angels next face Oakland on Monday, where RHP Dylan Bundy (1-6, 6.16 ERA) will be on the mound facing the A’s LHP Sean Manaea (5-2, 3.09).
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are going to try to end their losing streak in San Francisco against the Giants on Monday. RHP Matt Peacock (2-3, 5.24) will face San Francisco’s LHP Alex Wood (5-3, 3.79).
